Landgoed Marquette, consisting of Hotel & Chateau Marquette, was awarded best event location of the Netherlands on January 25. A fantastic boost the day before we can open our doors again’, says Erik Kuiper-van den Berg, CEO Relaxed Hospitality Group bv (owner of Marquette Estate).

Since 2006, the meeting awards have been presented to the best MICE companies and venues. The awards are an initiative of the Meetings magazine. The election takes place in seven categories. In November, it was announced that Hotel & Chateau Marquette had been nominated for the West Netherlands category for the second year in a row. After finishing in second place nationally in 2020, the year 2021 will see this historic location take first place.

The Marquette Estate consists of the historic Marquette Castle, Marquette Hotel and Mr. T’s bistro bar. The castle, with its foundations dating back to 1225, consists of 11 period rooms where both business and private guests can hold events such as trainings, congresses, receptions, etc. or family gatherings such as weddings, dinners and funerals. The hotel on the estate has 65 rooms.

Erik Kuiper-van den Berg, owner of Hotel & Chateau Marquette since 2018, is enormously proud of his team led by General Manager Gijs Goijaerts. “Of course, the past years were not easy and then to win the awards twice is a huge compliment for the commitment and resilience of everyone”. “Despite the turbulent years behind us, we have always kept looking forward. In the past two years, we have renovated 18 of our hotel rooms and we are currently preparing to renovate the rest of the hotel. This should be completed by the end of this year,” said Kuiper-van den Berg.

As an entrepreneur, Erik Kuiper-van den Berg caused a stir earlier with Landgoed Marquette. He used crowdfunding to finance the takeover in 2018. The financing was completed in 11 minutes. In 2020, he issued depositary receipts for shares to finance the renovation of the hotel & castle.
